Nearly there.

So it’s almost time for our exhibition in fact it’s three days away and I still have not quite decided on what final images to display although I do have fifteen that I could easily put on the wall. However trying to put them altogether too tell the story that I laid out in my NLA might be a different story, yes all of the images work together and expand a narrative and could tie in line but maybe too me not quite enough and if I see that then certainly my tutors will pick it straight up. So while doing a little critiquing and revisiting my images I found I could make sets out of the finals, that they also would tell a story that would fit in line with my agreement. This is something that certainly needs a lot more attention and dis something that I might be inclined too do as yet.
I did believe though that our work, other than it being in line with our agreements was ours to present as we thought best, it might not always be the case as sometimes outside influences might push for change. This could result in a better approach professionally and aesthetically or it might not, it is always good to take others insights and advice, to put it too good use but if you have ideals then you have to be true too yourself as well. I do want to put up the best images and they will be the ones that narrate the best story possible, yes I probably could have gotten stronger BDSM images from club members but they are more experienced than what I was wanting too show in the fact my subject was supposed to be inexperienced and completely new to the scene, by showing normal people in slighted scenarios then I feel I have still achieved what I set out to do.
I might also sit with my original idea of just printing out a small selection of the images say five or six max and having the other images displayed but not hung on the wall, maybe in an album or a portfolio. Decisions decisions and time is always not on my side, but at least is manageable.
So we had critiquing today and I stripped away my images further too better expand my narrative, I had ended up with two sets of five images that tell the story I wanted too. I am not convinced on what set to use or whether I will use both sets as they are different too each other, both work well on their own but also they link together nicely so again that leaves me with plenty of choice and two days too print woohoo no pressure :)
Pricing is a nightmare, I have never sold my work and while it would be nice too receive financial rewards for my effort it is not what drives me too create the images in the first place. The images themselves have received plenty of positive feedback including those that could seem to be seen as male dominated or sexist even. I have not purposely created them in a sexist way but I do see how many could view them as such, there is little I can do about others perceptions other than create literal images that leave no questions, but where’s the fun in that?
So do I charge like a wounded bull, lower my prices as I am an emerging artist and should reflect that in my pricing, or do I set the bar now only too change it later. I have looked at the price of many images on reputable web sites and the prices vary mostly dependant on the sizing and whether framed or not and some of the artists would also be classed as emerging and their prices are up there on average. The images have taken a lot of time and energy too create them so if I am too sell them then I don’t want them to go cheaply and undervalued but I don’t want too be seen to be overpriced and out of reach. My work is good but not at that level that I can command any price I desire and not have too justify it. Plenty of time in the future too get there for now I just have to be content with getting my work out there and recognised.
