Question Everything……
Well as always critiquing went well, there was a good amount of input from everybody. It is still hard too explain why I have done something when the reality is that I wanted too create some images that let the viewer ask of themselves their own set of questions that I had no answers too provide them with. Not exactly kosher now is it and certainly flies in the face of what my tutors are trying too get me to do, it is extremely hard too tell a story that has no lines, plot or body too, just an idea of creating a set of images that flow in a certain area of life, guess that on its own rights should be a story enough but as we find out it is not expanded enough and has no background, backbone too speak of. if people could understand the way my mind works then they could get a better handle on why I might not have the answers that they are looking for or are used too when critiquing works of art. But I guess as an emerging artist I should be a little easier on the art world and conform a little, not a lot just a little so that at least I can still be true to my own work. I do enjoy the input I receive from all the others as they have insights that I don’t share and this helps my work too evolve further and enables me too have my resources too call upon. Still if i am too compete at a higher level then I should have a little more of an explanation too my works other than because I can, although like McCahon’s works I am, I too could use the I can as a reference too my work and the background of it, all the time adding little bits into the background too alleviate some of the grumblings that would inevitably come from some of the many critics out there, but then they critique because they can’t do. The best critics and really only critics I would seriously entertain are those that work in the industry or are peers, at least then they might have a better understanding of where one might be coming from when applying it too their art. probably not the best thing too do as usually its those critics that don’t do anything other than critique that have more of an influence over the general masses. If the majority actually learned a bit about art, the artist, then they would be better informed in their own critiquing of anything they see rather than relying on the word of somebody else’s who may be prejudice against the artist of the piece of work itself, or they may even be completely off track as too what the artist is trying too represent. It’s like when we look at an artwork and have been given the brief that goes with it, there often time for debate as what is written often flies in the face of what is seen, and because they have been written by scholars and academics where have too accept it as gospel and not too go against, again this is where I say bollocks, question everything, who is too say that their view of it is correct, heck 300 years ago academics thought the universe revolved around the earth, how wrong where they and even today they are still discovering that the knowledge we thought too be 100% correct is flawed and open too interpretation.
I have dissected artwork before when not happy with the description of it as there is usually something screaming out too me from inside the image, it goes against what I am being told and I have too research it further and make more sense of the image I am looking at. I don’t offer suggestions too the work as too what I think they are trying to present but rather suggest that the author who has written the description up might not be entirely on the right track too begin with and I will back up my arguments with good solid reasons that offer another insight. I question everything an accept nothing, there is no written in stone and even my works can often lead too multiple outcomes, but that is because I want people to experience the image differently due too their own forthcomings in life. Not always is this possible when the image is a basic plain image but when I do my surreal and abstract images they effect people differently and their reactions change accordingly.
