Self Critiquing…
So looking through the images I have taken so far and I fell that too me I could expand further, and more content and context too them. Of course we all know what would be the outcome from peer critiquing, haha, but they are right and I know that no matter what I do I could always add a little more. But the images taken so far are good in their own rights, plenty of them work fine and certainly tell a story and I would be easily able to use them in a presentation without fear. Would I though? Or do I want too do just that little more. The two images that stand out the most so far is the one of the two models facing each other holding the chain to each other’s collar, cropped down and showing just the basic of the story if very powerful and creates the mystery of the image. The second shot is where one model is at the foot of the other looking up, this shot with the model she is looking up exposing her neck in an offering of submission all the while she has her hand on her mistresses foot in an act of disobedience, defiance even. It begs to ask the question of what the next scene would have been?
The images where I have just the one model in them at a time work also but don’t quite tell the same story as the images with the two of them, if I am too stick to the original concept then it makes more sense to have the two of them there. Unless I am just doing close up shots with ropes or chains then a single model can work fine as well, even an over the shoulder image would work just as fine as it would imply the gaze was coming from the person behind the model adding a little voyerism too the mix, although in reality are we not employing that already when viewing the images. I took a lot less images this time and there are plenty that do not make the cut straight away, mainly just due to exposure being incorrect and which ones they are is pretty obvious when you view them, the in no other reasons too reject them other than that they may have been in the not so quite right position yet. The ones that do make the cut have too be culled down even further, this is what I have been working on in the last week as well as playing with fame ideas. I will try still for another session in the studio and a few more images too the foray in the chase for that ideal image, and yes I know while planning the shot out can create that image, as proven by countless professionals, I find that for my mind it’s those shots that come from the random spur of the moment, that particular point in time something that you see in your model and the scene and just go with it, from here I find images that I could not have planned for and having the ability to be flexible is and asset not a hindrance.
I still want too add the male element into the images too see for myself whether or not they will work, I am not convinced that they will as the images of two women are quite powerful and emotional and tell their own story. Though having the Priest as the male either tied up or overseeing the proceedings adds and element that leaves plenty of questions, the main being why, then the one what’s it got too do with the rest of the story that I am saying. It gets quite hard some times saying that I added it just because I wanted too see if the images that I had seen in my mind correlated with the images I created in the camera, sometimes they look as good and work fine other times they really look like crap and I would like too send them to the recycle bin. I know the rules state I always must have a reason for what it is I am creating, something that gives critics a background into the psych of the image and author. But we all know that this is not always going too be the case with me there will be plenty of times that I will not have any story behind the images that I produce other than that of I saw it I wanted to create it, too often we place a high price on the reasoning of the how’s and whys and we tend too forget about the do’s. Artists can just do work for the sake of it, too create images that they see in their mind that they would like too share with the world whether or not they draw from their own personal experiences or dreams they may just be showing them for the sake of it so don’t always try too over analyse what it is you’re viewing but just too bathe in the beauty of it.
I know with this series of images it is not each individual image telling single stories but all the images together telling a bigger picture, I just have too find the link between them all now so that they flow in a continuous way don’t look so jabbled. But as always we will see what happens in the end.
