Third Year Begins

Righto so third year is started and I have to think of something to present to my tutors and classmates in a day as to what I would like to make my brief, pretty simple task right? Perhaps for some not for all. Very easy too come up with plenty of ideas and that I already have done, they are up on the wall already at college waiting for me to expand on them (It will be interesting to see if anybody has marked it since I placed it up on Monday).

So I’ve taken a few ideas merged a couple of others and have a small selection of them below, not that they will be the final outcomes but are something to start with, briefs can always be modified within reason or if the original concept proves too difficult task to reach after all avenues are exhausted, not something I prefer to do it is more enjoyable seeing a task completed from start to finish roadblocks and all.

Alice in Chains/ Rape of Innocence:
Not related to the band of the same name:  Alice succumbs to the world of BDSM after reading the Shades of Grey trilogy we follow her journey as it starts out at the lighter end of a social BDSM club and then as she ends up delving deep into the darkness of a seedy underworld dark culture that surrounds some of its members.

What Direction/ A Vision of What’s too Come:
Everyday we are directed by signs telling us what to do, even the objects we use have buttons directing us how to use them, directions going everywhere and nowhere, is this a vision of what’s too come. Soon we will become a world of direction and no free will of our own, our lives will be controlled every minute of every day, mapped out and never changing we will become autonomous and all of our actions recorded by the big eye in the sky. 1984?

Diary of the Priest:
Re-visiting a previous series titled The Portrait of a Killer,  in this series we were following the Priest as he engages in his normal activities and combines them with his nightly duties, what drives a man of the cloth to become executioner? Now we can go back and take a deeper look and hopefully get an insight into his activities, his drive and determination.

The first series would be more of a production series fully staged and with many assistants and actors involved, it would be a demanding and time consuming piece as plenty of studio and location shoots would be needed to achieve the final outcomes. It could also be done using one model and limited settings by just using ambiguous images alluring to the scenes.

The second series would just entail traveling the streets and then photographing plenty of signs, photographing remotes, papers, adverts or anything that may have a direction on it in one form or another then taking all the images and putting them into a collage, over the top I would add the image of an eye, it would be semi translucent so as not to over empower the other images but to make it its own image, I could do this with just the collage images if I can find enough with the right tones.

The third is the continuation of a previous series called ‘Portrait of a Killer’ which was based around a priest and his out of collar activities, here we would follow the priest once again as he goes about his duties his assassinations and the hows and whats that drives him to commit these acts in the name of God.

Two of these ideas, Alice in chains and the priest could easily be merge into each others series as well, adding more content and context to both stories and how they intertwine while coming from different backgrounds, Alice could be a parishioner and the priest her savior or maybe her executioner?

There is always the possibility that I do all three ideas for the exhibition and have them as separate identities or works in their own places, the finalized project has yet to be determined.

Now for a spanner in the works, as that is how my brain works,

Anonymous:

Following the social outbreak of the anonymous group worldwide I would create a series of images with a model/s wearing Guy Fawkes masks standing in various locations, I would do this using a slow shutter speed to allow the background people to blend/merge into each other while the main model/s are prominent throughout, whether they are at the front of the image or in the middle with the others passing by they will be the only one in focus other than the background structures themselves.

Right so as you can follow I can jump from topic to topic quite fast and easily, this is the kind of stuff my brain thinks is funny to do, constantly. But I live with it and this is a good way of dealing with it too, I have often thought of the anonymous images as I also have the mask and have photographed myself in it so would like to do that as a series regardless, maybe even as the brief, the research is easy, I know enough of the history concerning Guy Fawkes and then the resurgence of the mask thanks to the movie V for Vendetta and the  group Anonymous using it in their demonstrations against corporate greed, inhumanity issues and govt corruption. Plenty to think of and limited times to do so.
