A New Start

Following on from the original series ‘The Priest’ we delve back into his history, where he comes from what his environment was like, what made him choose the church does this give us any insight into the boy who becomes the man? A look at his modern day actions and how he separates the two from each other, the way he hides it from his ?normal world. Maybe add more insight into why he does what he does at night too, an executioner is not the normal thing for a priest to be doing so what drove him into acting this way when he is a man of the cloth, are the two related does he kill in the name of the lord or is he a rogue vigilante roaming the streets late at night cleaning them up as he goes. The possibilities are endless but time is not, I have to figure out the story and message fast.

Adding to that would be ‘Mrs Jones’ a mild mannered suburban housewife, raises the kids cleans the house goes to church every week, same old stuff day in day out. One day she reads the trilogy series “Shades of Grey” a novelist  idea into the world of BDSM, it is a modern day Mills and Boon story in hopes of raising passion in bored housewives, Mrs Jones fits this bill perfectly, we follow her as she starts out in her normal lifestyle then moves onto the world of the BDSM community and finally into the shady side of a sub culture that surrounds it. Of course the church she attends is the same as the Priests, he in fact is her confidant as being a good catholic she attends confession as well, how does this change the interaction between them and the way he sees her, does he become her savior or will he in time become her executioner?…

With anything that we create we try to add a message tot he image, it could be in many forms. symbolic metaphoric even literal, however with this series I do not have a message that I wanted to say, more so that I wanted too make a story and like all stories have the, in this case the viewer, read it for themselves, to find whatever it is that they are wanting too find, instead of words they can use the images, after all a picture is worth a thousand words unless you’re chinese then 1001 words is worth more than a picture. ;)

Right so I have to figure out where and what place this series has in the world, well it falls into the documentary genre so do I class it as such? After all it is documenting two peoples life stories as such so yes it very much fits the bill of that, but now is there a sub genre of documentary photography that this could also fall into? perhaps there is after some researching of course I find more and more as time goes on, there are many sub genres that I could use as a description, performative, narrative, conceptual, lifestyle, ethnographic and even possibly genre art if people were not identifiable to any known person.

So this gives me plenty more to go on and food for thought, plenty of which I will have time for over next couple days in hospital and recovery time. There are a few books and docos for me to check out and see what they are about and if I can possibly use them as reference material or fuel for my work. So do I do this as a serious representation of documentary work or like others do a piss take on it? I think I will go for the genuine as the story I am telling is one of a piss take against the church I don’t it too be labeled as such it would be better to be taken as a serious piece of work in its own right.
