Chaos

So I’ve spoken of this a lot and while most people think that they have a handle on it not many really do and even less are able too really comprehend it let alone live in it. Chaos makes up that part of life that we as humans have no control over, it does not matter who you are or where you live, Chaos reigns over everything and has no mercy yet quite often is a very useful tool in ones arsenal. I often find myself almost relying on chaos too show its hand when I am doing my art, not my photography, that I prefer too use the rules and aim for the best I can create, but when I do my surreal and abstract art with my cameras then chaos is in fact a main factor this time not something that happens perchance. Living with chaos in ones life can make for extreme contrasts, things can be going so wrong then bang she steps in and wow the results are amazing, images that twist the mind and question the thoughts. This is not always the case though, often chaos is a difficult mistress and very demanding often creating more problems then not, it will never solve the issues or problems for you, that’s not chaos that’s determination and good luck. So how would one enhance their use of chaos, quite easy just be open too it and start simply, go out with your camera anytime, well you do not even really need to go outside, the house has many items that will give great abstract images once you understand what you’re  looking at and for. They say a good photographer can look at a scene and crop it automatically into an image, this is the basis that we will use. Right too start with something easy, good lighting is important too begin with this will help you too see more of course but also show up those abstract items a little better. Now you have your camera ready, some decent lighting, natural or not, and some subjects-items too photograph it’s time to get chaotic. First look around and see with your own photography eyes anything that looks interesting, this is too say crop the image in your mind, done? Good. Now take the camera, a cell phone is just as good, either use the lcd screen on live view or the view finder on the camera and now take another look at the same objects, notice anything different? Once your eyes focus on the smaller version you start too see a different image, this is good this is the start, take a few snapshots, look for angles, lines, shapes or anything that looks unusual. The first few images might not yield anything useful but then again chaos may give you that image right from the start. Right so you have a collection of images too work with, take one and use your cropping and zoom tools, crop a piece of the image and then zoom in on it until you start too blur the edges a little, like a painting using the colours too create the ‘painted’ image like the one below, a ‘painted’ image of a flower close up. This same principle is basically used with chaos, nothing planned everything gained. No matter how much you plan something no matter how many contingency plans you have in place chaos is always there waiting in the dark for a chance to show her hand, and if prepared too accept this then this is when chaos becomes your friend and that valuable tool in your kit. So go out there and give it a try, you have nothing too lose and everything too gain.
