Bad Week
Well this week started out great and turned crappy pretty quickly, ended up stuck in bed for a whole day, pain was a little too intense and meds were not working fast enough, had to get extra meds from chemist to top me up. It helped, still in pain but no different now too any other day so it is something I just have too live with as always. So I missed critiquing in the end, was looking forward to presenting the work I had done last week, especially the shot with the iron, really wanted to see if that caused and stirs. I wanted this week to do a male version of the same shot but not with an iron maybe a power tool, something that screams masculinity, so that I have the opposite to the iron shot. I am not creating the images in any sexuality way, I am doing it simply because I can and if the viewer gets a message from it it will be because of their preconceived notions and ideas. They are interesting images and the topic is extremely sensitive for some, feminists included. And yes while they can stir the emotions, which is what I want, it is not so that I cause anguish too anybody but mainly to desensitize people too what they think is sexist. Too often we are bombarded with scenes and images of the male dominating the female or female dominating another, so creating an image where the male is dominated by a manly item should be just as sexist as if it were a woman holding an iron. Ballsed up a little this week too, had booked my model for friday morning only too forget that it is a public holiday and college will not be open, so I will have to wait until next week too do those images. I did think about using the studio over the weekend but then again maybe I can take the images off site and on location too add another element into the image by having the model situated in his own environment. This might actually work out fine as well, but guess I won’t know until I try it out. I will add plenty of questions into the images but as usual I will provide none of the answers, that will be entirely up to the viewer to complete. And besides who says I have to provide the answers? The arty farties? Well tough, if it goes against everything that they say then that is fine for me, after all I am not mainstreamed of confined to living inside the rules, I love breaking them, and they say you cannot break the rules unless you know them well and as over the last few years that is exactly what I have been doing, learning the rules, so now that I know what I am not allowed too do it gives me more incentive too actually break them and add my own flavour. After all do you think the early masters were not afraid too break the rules when they created new styles of art works, there are certain things that probably won’t work but of course I will find these out as I progress with my work in the future.
